Attorney Grant is a 1982 honor graduate of South Carolina State University and earned his Juris Doctor's degree in 1985 from The Ohio State University College of Law.

He served for five years as an Army JAG Captain working as a prosecutor and defense attorney.  He also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. He has attended continuing legal education seminars across the country, and in 2006 he attended the Ultimate Trial Lawyer's Course at Harvard University Law School.  He is certified as an Advocate with the National College of Advocacy.  He has been a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Phil Donahue Show twice, Leeza, and he has appeared on CNN, CBS, NBC and ABC concerning high profile cases he has handled.

He is the former host of The Carl B. Grant Show, radio program at South Carolina State University.  He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

He is a member of the American Association for Justice, South Carolina Association for Justice, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and presently sits on several boards and committees.
